Shiru l'Adonai

Today in synagogue we read of the Israelites crossing of the Red Sea.

Shiru L'adonai Ki Gao Ga'ah, Sus v'Rochbo Ramah baYam

Sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted: horse and rider hath He thrown into the sea.

Thus sang Miriam and all the people.

Turns out that the Jews are not the only ones impressed by this biblical story. The image above shows the suggested Great Seal of The United States of America submitted by Ben Franklin in 1776. Too bad Congress didn't pick this one. Instead they picked the dorky one with the eagle and the motto 'E Pluribus Unum.' I prefer both Franklin's suggested picture and motto.
